Sector Selection

The selection of an export value chain will be guided by a method on “Export expansion and employment potential”, which is the result of an ILO-ITC (International Trade Center) collaboration. 

Following the results of the ILO-ITC study, the METI project identifies sectors with high export potential and a high potential for creating more and better jobs; especially for women and youth and within small- and medium-sized enterprises. 

The selection criteria agreed by the members of the Policy Working Group (PWG) include: 

  • national strategic priorities,  
  • export potential,  
  • employment potential, in particular for women and youth, and in small- and medium-sized enterprises,  
  • environmental factors,  
  • level of informality,  
  • opportunities for market diversification and  
  • upgrading the in the value chain.  

After several rounds of technical discussions, the following sub-sectors have been selected by the PWG:
